Grading Contract for Art

D. Frye

Daily grades such as sketch assignments, project grades, and daily work will count as 70% of your grade and six week tests and sketch book checks will count as 30% of your grade.

Daily work:

First, understand that you are accountable for all deadlines and criteria for art. You will not receive a good grade in art just because you are “good” at art. You must earn a good grade by working hard, turning in assignments on time, and finishing work. Deadlines are a part of life in every career. It is important that you learn organizational skills and use your time wisely. If you are having trouble finishing an assignment, you can come into the art room before school, after school, during 7th period (first semester and 4th period 2nd semester), or take it home. Completion grades will reflect the percentage of amount of work finished. For example, if you have only finished 60% of your project, your highest grade you will get is a 60. If your work is 100% finished, the Completion grade then reflects how well it has been done.

I will only accept late work if you are absent, stated in the CISD handbook. All work is due on the due date. If you do not have your assignment on the due date, it is a zero and you may not turn it in at a later date. YOUR GRADE WILL REMAIN A ZERO ON ALL WORK NOT TURNED IN ON THE DUE DATE, EVEN IF I HAVE SEEN YOU WORKING ON IT. IF IT IS NOT HERE TO GRADE, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO ON YOUR DESIGN AND COMPLETION GRADE ON PROJECTS. The only way to improve your completion grade, if turned in, is to finish it on your own time and turn in back in the next day.

Tests:

In the past, I have always allowed students to use their sketchbooks and notes on the test. Now, using your notes will be a reward and not allowed for everyone. You may only use your notes if you do not have any zeros in Art. This is an incentive for students to be more organized and turn work in on time. If you have a zero, then you will have to complete the test from memory.

These strict standards have been made because students are not using class time to work, not taking due dates seriously, not working to their abilities, not turning in work and thinking it’s impossible to fail art.
